The Stanley Cup. It’s the Canadian dream.

This is a story of a hard working Saskatchewan boy who truly made it. A story of work, grit and hopes of glory. A story of blood, sweat and true blue Canadian hard fought tears. On June 6th 2019 a dream came true.

A few weeks after St. Louis won the Stanley Cup we received an unexpected email. Would we be willing to travel to Saskatoon to photograph a Stanley Cup celebration party? We were already connected to Kelsey and Brayden - they hired us to provide a black and white photo booth for their July 2020 wedding. But, this we definitely didn’t expect.

Brayden would have The Stanley Cup for a mere 10 hours in his hometown of Saskatoon to celebrate his 2019 NHL Championship. This would be an incredible opportunity to photograph all the loved ones who supported him in his Championship journey. YES PLEASE.

We quickly rearranged some meetings and photo shoots to make the trip to good ol’ Saskatchewan to photograph this incredible occasion.

These are the people who supported him. The are his mentors, his biggest supporters. They were the ones up at 4am driving mini vans through Tim Horton’s drive through getting coffee for all the other parents. The men who helped train him and the women who cheered him on. The siblings who went to the hundreds of games, the coaches who pushed him farther than he’d ever been pushed before.

These are the people who loved and believed in him all along. That’s why these images are important. They are part of his story of greatness. Every one played a part.

And now it was time to celebrate all the hard work and sacrifice.

… and of course my absolute favourite people to photograph at any event are grandparents or couples who have been married for many years. Creating portraits showcasing the real personalities of and connections between people is really what making photographs is all about. These images truly warm my heart and I hope they bring joy to the families of these lovely people.

Congratulations Brayden - it was amazing to celebrate with you and your family.
